COURTNEY GOWIN, DC

CHIROPRACTOR + OWNER

CHIROPRACTOR + OWNER

Dr. Courtney Gowin is a West Texas native with a California soul. She discovered the healing power of chiropractic through a college basketball injury that ended up being the biggest blessing and paved the way for her to go to chiropractic school after finishing her studies at Abilene Christian University.

During her time at Parker University, Dr. Gowin fell in love with not only the body's capacity to heal naturally, but also to birth naturally. She and her husband, Brandon Gowin, have welcomed three sweet girls, Amelia Rose, Capri Nicole, and Luna Lou into this world naturally at home.

After two years in practice Dr. Gowin saw the void in the birth community of actual community, and through a lot of prayer and hard work, created the NEST.  Being able to practice alongside a midwife, massage therapists, and many other birth workers, Dr. Gowin has been able to support and empower hundreds of women during their birth experience and beyond. Supporting and ecouraging women throughout their pregnancies and beyond is one of Dr. Gowin's greatest passions.

Along with running Free to Be Chiropractic, Dr. Gowin also teaches and speaks to chiropractors around the world.  She holds a special passion for mentoring students and teaching this beautiful art of prenatal chiropractic.  When she is not traveling, teaching, or doing yoga you can find her chasing all her animals around on their family farm.

COURTNEY KAHLA, DC

CHIROPRACTOR

Dr. Courtney Kahla is first and foremost, fully surrendered to God, but she is also a wife to Brandon Kahla, mother to a Great Dane and rescue kitty, currently pregnant with her first baby (an absolute miracle after struggling with fertility for 1.5 years), a member at Watermark Church, and joined Dr. Courtney Gowin at Free to Be Chiropractic in 2018. From the time she was a child, she had a firm belief that the body was self-healing and self-regulating. She grew up just north of our office in Allen, TX (went to Lovejoy High School) and is the oldest of 5 kids. She played collegiate volleyball on a full-ride scholarship and attended Abilene Christian University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science — Health Promotion.

She attended Chiropractic school at Parker University and became passionate about serving families. She specializes in fertility, preconception, prenatal, pediatric, women’s health and whole family wellness with additional training and certifications from the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association), but serves people of all ages from all walks of life with gentle + specific nervous system focused chiropractic care.

Supporting women from preconception to postpartum and beyond is her jam, but fertility holds a special place in her heart after her own personal struggles. She is passionate about empowering others to take control of their health by living a lifestyle that honors their God-given innate ability to heal. Her goal is to remove any interference that is preventing your body from healing and functioning as optimally as God created it to.

CHERYL RAY

OFFICE MANAGER

If you can’t tell by the striking resemblance, Cheryl is Dr. Courtney Kahla’s mom. She was born and raised in the Portland, Oregon area on a self-sustaining farm with her parents and 3 brothers. She came to Texas to attend college at Abilene Christian University and met her husband, Russell Ray (Dr. Kahla’s dad) there. Together, they have 5 children! Cheryl birthed all 5 kids in 7 years while moving from Virginia to Oregon to Washington to Texas to New Jersey and then finally back to Texas. She was a stay-at-home mom for over 25 years and is passionate about raising healthy families.

She currently serves as our “office mom” but you can also find her at Greenville Oaks Preschool loving on those kiddos throughout the week. Cheryl can answer any scheduling, payment, or office policy questions for you, but will also gladly hold your baby or entertain your little ones while you focus on your own chiropractic care for a few minutes of peace.
